Sony just dropped the ECM-W5, a new wireless mic system that feels like their answer to DJI's wireless mics. You get two transmitters, a receiver, a charging case and a USB-C adapter.
The big feature is the Multi Interface Shoe. The receiver sends audio to the camera digitally, so compatible Sony bodies record 32-bit float right into the video file. No syncing in post and no stressing about levels, though you still get auto or manual gain (-12 to +12 dB) plus noise cut and low cut.
Each transmitter has 64GB of backup recording, a locking 3.5mm lav jack, and clip or magnet mounting at about an ounce. Range is up to 500m, and battery is about 7 hours per charge, or around 11 with the case if the receiver runs off camera power.
The receiver has an AMOLED touchscreen, you can add two more transmitters for four people on separate tracks, and it connects to phones and computers over USB-C and supports timecode.
I've been running DJI Mic Minis on my rig and they've been one of the best purchases I've made, so I'm curious how Sony's holds up.
It's $399.99 and ships in November. If you're already on Sony, everything landing in one file might be worth it on its own.
