In a world overflowing with cookie-cutter content and recycled trends, every once in a while, a creator pops up who sticks out to me. In 2020, I discovered Zach Schy, known as SchyyGuy on all social media platforms.
I immediately fell in love with his art. What he creates invites feelings of familiarity, wonder, and hypnosis while utilizing liminal spaces to bring you in.
I've always been interested in the technical aspect of his creations, and I constantly find myself bookmarking his videos to analyze. Recently, a video featuring Zach was released, and he goes into extreme detail on how he's created certain scenes from his work; there is absolutely no gatekeeping whatsoever.
The video "SchyGuyy's Key to Surreal Cinematography" was created by Digital Spaghetti, a YouTube channel hosted by Jack Conte, a wonderful creative and musician. On this channel, you can find videos similar to this one that are all very inspiring and open in their own right.
I encourage all of you to check this video out; when I saw it for the first time it INSTANTLY flooded me with inspiration and gave me the urge to create right that second. Attached is the link below:

While SchyGuyy is still early in his journey as a filmmaker, his distinct visual language and willingness to get weird hint at a bright future. In an industry that often rewards safe bets, voices like his remind us why filmmaking is an art form in the first place: to explore, to experiment, and to express something deeply, undeniably human.
